INTRODUCTION
March marks a shift—the days are getting longer, and there’s a renewed sense of momentum. As we move further into 2026, the Canadian Design Network continues to grow, with new initiatives, upcoming opportunities, and more ways to connect across Canada’s design community. We’re excited to keep building a space for thoughtful, human-centred design conversations, and we’re glad to have you with us as part of this evolving network.

The Invisible Power of Design
We often judge design by what we see: forms, materials, and colours. Yet
the most influential decisions are the ones we rarely notice. A space can
calm us, energize us, or make us hesitant without a single conscious
thought. That silent influence is where design becomes powerful: in the
choices that guide behaviour, mood, and flow long before aesthetics come

Designing with Emotion: A Holistic Approach to User Experience
As an industrial designer, I’ve learned that design is not only about solving
problems, but about creating meaning. We’re trained to think critically
about usability, efficiency, and form, but true design goes deeper than that. Read more

The Muscle Memory Tax: When Major UX Changes Shatter Habit and Serve the Algorithm
I just wanted to take a picture. The moment required speed - a spontaneous portrait of my friend in perfect light. I opened my phone’s camera app and reflexively tapped to switch to Portrait Mode, but the control had vanished, replaced by an unfamiliar swipe and a hidden menu. Read more

When I started my journey as a graphic designer, I believed good design was mostly about balance, typography, and visual harmony. A strong poster, a clean logo, or a well-structured layout felt like the ultimate goal. Read more

The start of 2026 has been an exciting time for CDN. Our community continues to grow, with a steady increase in followers and engagement across the platform.
Our feature articles—written by CDN contributors—have been very well received. We’ve also been encouraged by the strong interest from designers wanting to contribute to the newsletter. The response has been overwhelming in the best way, and we’re currently exploring the possibility of publishing two issues per month to accommodate the volume of submissions. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a preliminary list of planned projects for 2026 and inviting support from the community. These initiatives will include topics such as sustainability, celebrating the careers of past designers, and recognizing outstanding Canadian designers. Thank you for being part of this growing network.
The priorities for 2026 have been established, Here are a few of the highlights
